Since 1959 some of the world’s best anglers have gathered on the Kailua Kona pier to see who would take top honors in what is one of Hawaii’s most prestigious fishing tournaments. We’ll get a brief history of the HIBT, learn a little bit about marlins, and see a couple of the teams try their best to take the top prize. Along the way we discover the interesting “accidental” origin of the skirted resin lure. It was a revolution in design and forever changed the way bluewater fishers pursue their game. We’ll also find out about proper lure setup in Tackle Tips, sample a great ahi recipe from Chris Choi, and get some good advice about installing rod holders from Mark Kimura at Honolulu Community College’s Marine Education and Training Center.
